Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between filter and espresso?
We always source and roast our coffee with a particular brewing method in mind. So generally speaking, our filter coffees are roasted a little lighter and tend to come from a wider variety of countries. They lend themselves better to pour over (for example, V60 or Chemex). They're usually more fruity, bright, or floral, and we recommend drinking them black. Our espresso beans are often a little more hardy and robust, and are roasted to give them a fuller body which pairs beautifully with milk as well as black!
Some brewing methods are pretty versatile -- an Aeropress or French Press, for example, works well for beans labelled as either espresso or filter.
Can you provide brewing instructions or recommendations?
Absolutely! We have a general guide at the bottom of each product page, but don't hesitate to get in touch or come into the shop if you'd like more detailed advice. We love to talk about making coffee!
What's the roast date on your coffees?
All our bags have a roast date stamped on the bottom. Our coffee is freshly roasted, but we recommend letting it rest for a week after the roast date for the best flavour.
How should I store my coffee?
All our bags have an airtight grip seal, so it is absolutely fine to store it in the bag. For whole beans, we recommend drinking within 2-3 months of the roast date. For ground coffee, try to use within a month.
If your coffee has been stored for a little longer than this, it is still absolutely drinkable and food safe -- but it will taste duller and less vibrant. You can extend the shelf life of whole beans for up to a year by storing them in the freezer.
I'd like to buy a coffee I've had before, but I can't find it on the website. Will it be back?
Our coffee rotates seasonally because, like all crops, it is harvested at different times of the year in different parts of the world -- so we are only able to provide certain coffees at certain times of the year. Once the year's crop is gone, it's gone!
However, we do sometimes go back to the same farms -- especially those we have personal relationships with. So if there was something you absolutely loved, fear not! It may return.
We're always happy to recommend different beans or advise you on which coffee to choose if your favourite goes out of season. Shoot us an email or pop in store for a chat.
What's your returns policy?
We do not accept returns unless a product is damaged or defective. This refers to visible damage or contamination, strong off-odors or if an incorrect item is shipped. Coffee is a natural product, so there are always minor variations in taste and appearance -- this is completely normal, and not defective.
However, we are happy to exchange one coffee for another within reason, provided the bag you received is unopened and in its original packaging. To request a return, please contact us within 7 days of receiving your order via the Contact Us form with your order number, email for reply, and a description of the issue.
What are your shipping options?
We ship all orders with Royal Mail 48hr tracked.
Can I visit?
Yes! We have a cafe at the roastery, open 9am-1pm Monday-Saturday. Come by and say hi!
